I just got a treadmill and i want to lose 40 pounds, so how do i strat?

I just want some info on how long i should run or walk? when i should exercise like in the morning or after i come from work ???? HELP!! i really wanna lose weight am no happy i gained about 30 pounds in the past 3 months. OH an i weight 180 . THANKS !!
