My best friend who I am in love with needs space?

mm..maybe you were just smuthering him a little bit and thats why he asked for some time. don't give it up. just wait it out for a little while and if he doesn't come around then i suggest you call him to let him know that you can't wait around for him that you love him and that's why every thing he does thats mean hurts you a lot. if he cannot understand that then as painful as it sounds, you have to move on because your living your own life in a different state. you should probably go and meet other people too since he is trying to, you never know you might find someone better than him. goodluck i hope everything works out! :)
